Networking 101: Basic tips to help you make an impression

In Wifestyle by Mrs. Ashlee Adams15 Comments

Yesterday, I attended the Natural Hair Show. There were vendors galore and tons of beautiful faces learning about natural hair care, makeup and everything in between. I had a great time and made a lot of great connections. As always, I tend to reflect on my experiences and find out how I can use them to help others. I talked to a friend who felt a little uncomfortable about networking and wanted some tips on how to be better. Just thought I would share those tips with you because networking is HUGE when it comes to making your business work.

Be Courageous and Put yourself out there

BREAKING NEWS: No one is checking for you. Until you get to the level where you no longer have to introduce yourself, you have to put yourself out there. Be confident and let people know who you are and why they should know you and your brand.

Have Fresh Breath

Carrying tic tacs or some other type of mints are a must. Your breath is an important reflection of your hygiene. You definitely don’t want someone to remember you for having stinky breath. With that being said, stay away from Garlic and Onions or anything else with a pungent odor.

Give a card, get a card, and use a card

Make sure you have plenty of business cards and give them away. Always ask for a card as well and don’t let them sit in the bottom of your purse. USE IT!

Follow up

A week is pushing it in my book. I usually try to follow up strategically 2 or 3 days later. Include where you met, a reminder of your interaction (did you guys share a laugh or a memorable moment?), what you do and any other information that you would love to share.

Look like your Brand

Some of the people at these events, looked like they were picking up groceries at Wal Mart. NOT CUTE! You can’t sell me on an idea but not look like you are serious about what you are doing. Look great and you will feel great. But ALWAYS reflect your brand.

Believe in your SELFIE!

God created 1 you because you have everything you need to change the world. Believe in your selfie and know that what you are doing matters. No one will believe in you unless YOU believe in yourself!
